SHORT BIOS
Vish Nandlall is the VP of Advanced Wireless Technologies at Dell, where he is responsible for developing the technology roadmap for B5G and 6G. He was previously the co-founder and CEO of Elefante Group, a startup developing station-keeping stratospheric airships for low-cost 5G coverage. Prior to this, Vish was the global CTO for Telstra where he led the company’s innovation strategy, incubating their IoT and Big Data portfolios. In 2016, he was inducted to Australia’s “Knowledge Nation 100” for his contributions to the national innovation agenda and was recognized by Global Telecom Business in 2015 as one of the top 50 CTOs to watch.
Vish Nandlall previously served as CTO/CMO/CSO for Ericsson in North America. While at Ericsson, he was responsible for defining Ericsson’s regional market strategy and technology roadmap and was recognized by Wireless World as one of the top 100 global wireless experts. Vish’s key accomplishment was to deliver a $3B USD growth strategy in digital media, IT transformation, cloud, and next generation IP networks.
Vish Nandlall started his career at Nortel Networks, where he developed the industry’s first distributed processing system for voice applications, pioneered 10Gbps IP forwarding, and led the industry’s first LTE trial system. In 2005, Vish was named Nortel’s CTO for the Carrier Networks Group, and was awarded the title of Nortel Distinguished Engineer for his technical leadership across Nortel’s IP, optical and wireless products. He has been awarded a fundamental patent for LTE, and has published several widely cited IEEE LTE technology papers. Vish also holds several patents for the design of cloud based mobile applications and communication services.
Cole Crawford is CEO and founder of Vapor IO, the creators of the Kinetic Grid™ platform. Vapor IO is the leading provider of edge colocation, edge networking and edge interconnection services. Cole has been a thought leader in the data center technology and edge computing industry for over a decade. Cole is a founding board member of the Open19 Foundation, the founding executive director of the Open Compute Project Foundation and co-founder of OpenStack. He is leading Vapor IO in developing the largest nationwide edge colocation and interconnection platform at the edge of the cellular network. Cole is a Forbes contributor, has been named to Data Economy’s list of The World’s Most Influential Data Economy Leaders and The World’s First Top 50 Edge Computing Influencers.
Benoit Pelletier is currently Director, Next Gen Ecosystems & Alliances in the Advanced Technologies at VMware driving the execution of the Next G strategy by focusing on human and societal needs – aligning with the evolutionary cycle of human behavior, society, and other technologies. Proud co-founder of the Open Grid Alliance, an industry-led initiative for rearchitecting the Internet, as well as ENCQOR 5G, a strategic PPP initiative in Canada.
Serving in 5G/6G alliance’s boards: board of OGA, board of Governors for 5G Americas, Next G Alliance’s FMG & co-chair of the Steering Group, and general co-chair of IEEE Future Networks World Forum and Industry Fora conference.
Creative thinker and passionate about co-innovation, disruptive technologies, and execution in different industry markets: telecom (VMware, Nortel), transportation (Bombardier), and aerospace (Oerlikon Aerospace). Proven leader with an intrapreneur mindset who creates rich and unique ecosystems that connect multinational corporations, SMBs, governments and academia. Benoit held several leadership positions in innovation, design, system integration, program management and business development. Benoit holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sherbrooke.
Fabrice Labeau is the Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning) at McGill University, where he also holds the NSERC/Hydro-Québec Industrial Research Chair in Interactive Information Infrastructure for the Power Grid. His research interests are in applications of signal processing. He has (co-)authored more than 200 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings in these areas.
He is the Director of Operations of STARaCom, an interuniversity research center grouping 50 professors and 500 researchers from 10 universities in the province of Quebec, Canada. He is Past President of the IEEE Sensors Council, former President (2014-2015) of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society, and a former chair of the Montreal IEEE Section.
He was a recipient in 2015 and 2017 of the McGill University Equity and Community Building Award (team category), of the 2008 and 2016 Outstanding Service Award from the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society and of the 2017 W.S. Read Outstanding Service Award form IEEE Canada. He was recognized in 2018 “Ambassadeur Accrédité” for the Montreal Convention Center. He is a “champion” for Engineers Canada’s 30 by 30 initiative.
Jesse Vincent-Herscovici has been an integral member of the Business Development team at Mitacs since 2009. He has served on numerous advisory committees and boards, such as The Concordia Institute for Water, Energy, and Sustainable Systems (Board Chair), the Centre for Applied Mathematics in Bioscience and Medicine, and BioFuelNetCanada. He is the Chairman of Mitacs’s Senior Leadership Team and member of the Advisory Council of the Canadian Mobility and Aerospace Institute (CMAI).
Since being appointed Vice-President of Business Development at Mitacs in 2017, Jesse has been unfailingly committed to the organization’s mission of fostering Canadian innovation and has overseen the building of countless new partnerships between industry and academia while scaling the national business development team to over one hundred professionals embedded across the private sector and post-secondary institutions. He holds a degree in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Human Systems Intervention from Concordia University.
Stephen Spellicy is known in the software industry as a subject matter expert with experience in product marketing, technical marketing and product management. As vice president of service provider marketing, enablement and business development, he is responsible for building awareness, influence and driving customer demand in the market for VMware’s Telco Cloud Platform, which is designed for communication service providers (CSP) who seek to virtualize their network functions to increase agility and scale.
Previously, Stephen led both the product management and marketing functions for Guavus, a Thales company, within the Mobile Connectivity Services business unit and has also held senior marketing leadership roles at HPE, Dell/EMC, Lucent Technologies, EqualLogic, Njini, Inc., and Virtensys, Ltd. Stephen is based in Bedford, New Hampshire, married for 25 years with 3 children, and enjoys listening to and playing jazz. He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, with a concentration of study in film scoring and 20th century music composition.
Michael Sherwood, Chief Innovation and Technology Officer, City of Las Vegas
Michael has more than 20 years of experience in the fields of process improvement, technology and innovation. Prior to the city of Las Vegas, he served as the Deputy Director of Public Safety, Business Services & City Technology for the City of Irvine, California. Michael is extremely passionate about technology, and believes through innovation, workforce development and collaboration, we can create brighter and sustainable communities.
Michael received his B.S. in Management from Pepperdine University followed by an M.S. in Executive Management from the University of Southern California.
